When isolation is non-negotiable, trapped cavity pressure can’t be ignored.
In quarter-turn valves, closing the valve can leave pressure locked in the ball cavity or downstream line. Vented ball valves provide a controlled path to relieve this trapped pressure, making them a smart safety choice in instrumentation, pneumatic and fluid systems. In Fluidline’s air distribution / header manifolds (air header distributors), vented valves play a key role in safe isolation and pressure release, eliminating pressure build up in the body vessel of the air header.
A vented ball has a small vent hole drilled into the ball. When the handle is turned to the closed position, the vent aligns to discharge trapped pressure in a controlled way. In air header service, the vent is commonly oriented at the bottom of the ball to safely release downstream air to atmosphere and prevent accidental actuation of pneumatic equipment during maintenance. Fluidline’s two-piece vented valves are built to recognized standards (ANSI B16.34, Design to API 598 inspection & test) with PTFE/RPTFE seats and blow-out-proof stems, making them suitable for utility air, gases, water, oil and compatible chemicals within their listed temperature limits.
An air distribution header (air header distributor) supplies multiple outlets from a single inlet, typically with a drain at the far end. Equipping each drop with a vented two-piece ball valve means that as soon as the outlet is closed, trapped pressure is automatically relieved, maintaining safety. This design significantly improves maintenance safety and is a standard feature in Fluidline’s air and fluid distribution header manifolds.
